It was a great meeting again at the School of Art last night. Like the previous session, I was impressed and excited by the enthusiasm shown by everyone there. It’s great to be part of a project where people are so keen to take part and develop something new. I’m really looking forward to seeing the proposals when they’re submitted.

Perhaps this could be the start of a new way for the museum and art gallery to work with local artists, keeping in touch more closely with what’s going on in the area and discussing ways to improve the activities and events at the museum to encourage more people to take part in different ways.

Another year, another meeting

I’m ashamed to see how long it’s been since my last post on this blog. What can I say? Christmas, New Year, bad weather, other work commitments… the usual reasons/excuses.

Anyway, there’s another meeting tonight at 5pm at the Burslem School of Art. If you’re on our mailing list, you should have received an e-mail reminder of this recently. Tonight’s meeting will have less of a clear agenda than the last meeting. Its main purpose is a general discussion of progress and ideas – more of a chance to catch up and ask any questions that may have arisen since the previous meeting.

I can’t promise to post on this blog quite as much as I did before Christmas, but I’ve been accumulating a list of links to interesting digital and multimedia activities, so perhaps for the next few weeks, this blog may become more of a referral site.

Remember, if you find anything you think is relevant or intersting to the Leave No Trace exhibition or the people involved in one way or another, feel free to add a post on this blog. (You’ll have to register first, if you haven’t already done so.)

Wow! Everone was so positive and enthusiastic at last night’s meeting. Thank you all so much for attending and making such useful suggestions and just generally being so supportive about the idea of the exhibition. It sounds like some people are already working on ideas that are relevant, while others immediately started thinking about possibilities. I particularly liked Ben’s idea of skill sharing – I’ll post about this in the next few days.

If you weren’t able to attend last night – don’t worry. It wasn’t a one-off opportunity. We’ll arrange another meeting, possibly around the middle of January so that everyone can chat about progress as well as allow others to come along and get involved.

In the meantime, I hope lots of people will post on this blog, to start discussions and to provide links to interesting stuff.

Tonight

Tonight’s the night for the meeting at Burslem School of Art, to discuss with artists the forthcoming Erasure exhibition at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. I have no idea how many people will turn up, but quite a few have expressed interest and promoted it to their circles of contacts, so I hope it’s a good sized crowd.

The programme is simple: we start at 5pm, available for informal chat with anyone who wants to (light refreshments available), then a short presentation at 6pm followed by open discussion, ending at 7pm in time for the Blurb sessions at ArtWaves gallery/studio.

It’s only a couple of days now until the meeting at Burslem School of Art on 18th November to open up preparation of the exhibition. I hope a lot of people come along to listen to the presentation and contribute to the discussion. It’s really important that artists feel involved in the process and have the opportunity to help shape the exhibition, so start thinking about what digital erasure might mean to you. Hope to see you there, between 5pm and 7pm!

I’m pleased to announce that there will be an open meeting at Burslem School of Art on Wednesday 18th November, from 5pm to 7pm. All digital artists in the area are invited to attend, to discuss the forthcoming Erasure exhibition. I’ll be posting more details over the next few days, but the format will be:

5pm-6pm Informal chat for anyone who wants to drop in
6pm Short presentation on the ideas behind the exhibition, followed by general discussion

We’ve deliberately picked this date in the hope that people intending to go to the Blurb session at AirWaves at 7pm that evening will come along a little bit earlier to find out what’s going on. Light refreshments available!
