Daniel Shiffman is one of the leading figures in the world of Processing, and has written an excellent book Learning Processing, aimed people who are new to programming. He is currently writing a book on creating code to reflect nature, called The Nature of Code, and a draft of early parts of the book is available online.
Dan recently wrote an article about a couple of his installations, set in the context of self-portraiture. (His mention of experiencing a decade of an artist’s life through Polaroids may not be a reference to this video, because that only covers six years, but it is probably similar. )
This theme of self-portraiture is a useful reminder that perhaps it’s time this blog started to look, not just at software and examples of digital art, but at contexts and concepts behind the use of digital tools, and in particular the idea of Leaving No Trace. After all, that’s why this blog was set up.
