One of the recognised ways of learning Processing is to tinker with other people’s code. You may not understand what each line of the code does, but by changing some of the numbers you can see which lines affect which parts of the sketch.
Create Digital Motion, an excellent site for interesting digital activities, has an article on hacking a Breakout game and thereby creating art. It’s really impressive what the participants managed in only six hours, and the variety is stunning. You can download and examine each participant’sĀ altered code, though be warned that the comments are in Spanish – an additional language to deal with!
